Biography
Brian grew up in the North West, Woodley near Stockport. He learnt String Bass and Bassoon at secondary school, where he played in both the school orchestra and big band. He also joined the Stockport Youth Orchestra with whom he played for the Queen in her silver jubilee year (1977).
After leaving school Brian played keyboards with "Kaspa" for four years. This was a successful cabaret band which toured the North West in a transit van called “Bastard” ('nuff said). During that time the band also played on a Eurovision song contest entry for singer/songwriter David Paul.
A move to Bristol then saw Brian loose his way musically and for several years he just played at home for fun and the occasional jam with friends. After moving to Newbury, a chance discovery that a work colleague was also a saxophone student led Brian to dust off his bass. This expanded into the swing and jazz band, Jaxx Plus One, gigging at summer fetes and such like.
Later still Brian played with Newbury college big band for two years and became involved with both the Hungerford & Newbury Jazz Platforms. From contacts formed at the jazz forums he joined and recorded with Smokestack, a popular R&B band based in Hungerford.
Whilst keeping his hand in orchestrally by playing with the likes of Lower Early Concert Band and the pit orchestra for the Hungerford Town Show production of Annie Get Your Gun, Brian was introduced to members of Premium Banana. A 12 piece covers party band who he joined and has played with since March 2005.
Through contacts made at the Hungerford Jazz forum and determined to cover all bases (or should that be basses?) Brian also plays "dinner" jazz with Hungerford based Dodgy Jammers. A six piece band who play regularly at Garden Parties, Weddings and other Private functions.
